Description
This came into our church rummage sale marked "coin sorter." It's a little puzzling to me, but maybe it's meant to "save" quarters, or perhaps it was used in a business and the holes on the sides were utilized to "lift" out a certain number of quarters. It seems to be quite old and rather heavy. It has 4 tubes or towers, and a carrying handle at the top. The towers seem to be brass (magnet won't stick) but the heavy base has some other metal (magnet sticks to it) All four towers appear to be the same size, but only two of them are marked along the sides with the amounts....each tube holds $46 in quarters. I'm also not certain why there are "springs" around two of the towers, but not the others. And the underside seems to have plates and screws that don't make a lot of sense to me. (Maybe it's for if the quarters get stuck?) All in all, it's a rather interesting piece, and I'm sure someone who collects such items knows exactly what it's used for.
